Ther´s one more thing , wallnut shells are one of the most dangerous substrates avaliable, much more dangerous than sand, because they can cause a gastrointestinal blocage. The owner often doesant see that the animal is eating it or that something is going on. When injested they swell inside a animal´s gutts causing the blocaje. Monitor ,like many other lizards are particulary at danjer because of tongue flicking. The only thing I can think of that is equalily mach its thouse darn corn knopps. Remove that thing as soon as you can.;)

Oh also, I just remenbar that wallnut shells have sharp edges:grinno:

ya cause im sure people havnt raised water monitors to healthy adults without dirt. thats like saying if you fish tank is bare you fish arnt gunna be healthy
no its not, unless you have a burrowing fish. and it's not just about the physical needs of the monitor, it's about the phycological needs of him.

now stop arguing with experienced monitor keepers, and change that substrate.

and, how big are you planning on your final tank being?

dude you really need to provide it with some dirt to burrow and remember when using mulch not to use cedar, it is very poisonous.

alright you win ill use a mixedture of dirt and cyprus mulch and the enclosure im building is 8 x 5 x 5 L x H x W ill have a top
Still not big enough.

Your Varanus Salvator Salvator has the potential to get FEET.
Your going to put it in an 8x5? That should be fun!

Build a 12x8x4.
Anything less for an adult Salvator would just be idiotic.

WARNING PEOPLE! We have the next LC!

ya cuz im gunna put a 23 inch monitor in that size of a cage so that it has no security
You are not listening. AN Adult needs the size of enclosure he mentioned. You can not keep an adult in the size that YOU mentioned. We are only here to help.
I hope s/he is no longer on the walnut shells.

Walnut shell impaction..
