I bought a xp4 and it comes with jack crap for filter media.
my question is will pot scrubbers work for bio media in it??

Howdy,

pot scrubbers have very little surface area. Fine for large volume w/d, but not good in a canister. Better get some quality sintered glass materials like EhfiSubstrat Pro or Sera Siporax.

Better to use a good ceramic media.Depends on the bioload and how you are setting it up.My ehiem is setup with bioballs and no mech media, just a prefilter.

dang.. is there any cheap media that i can use?? my only lfs is petsmart!!

i have used scrubbies in XP3 and they work okay, but not great. I put some Fluval media I got from PetSmart in my new XP3 and one box is only good for one half of a full basket at $10 per box. I needed 4 boxes to fill 2 baskets and I think the XP4 has one more basket than the XP3. If Poopsmart is your only local option and you don't want to order online, the Fluval BioMax is the best thing to get there and the cheapest. Print this off and take it in for a pricematch: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753126

i liek to cut up plastic bottles and throw it in my canister....big surface area and can pack quite a few inside your canister then i throw soem bioballs and a spong and tahts it
