Yeah, they are. I bought several different kinds from Dollar Tree and put them in my canister. Although they did carry one brand that stated on the back "Not for aquarium use." So make sure it doesn't say that and you should be fine.

Those are total gold in my book. have difficulty in finding at times.

Thats how I topped off my DIY project. Big lots was best pricing I found 6 for $1. I bought all off the shelf.

Do i need to do anything to them before i stick them in my sump? just rinse them off or do i need to soak them?

Lets just say, theres a stickie explaining how much better these are than bio balls.

I use these in every w/d i have, and even in my canisters, and hob.
