pot scrubbies for bio media?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The more the better scrubbies are great :headbang2stuff in as many as u can in the area where the traditional filter cartridge would go.

Rule of thumb: Sump size is 1/3 that of the original tank size for a heavily stocked tank, 1/4 that of original tank size for normally a stocked tank.

Then 1/2 to 1/3 of the sump of the W/D for bio-material (scrubbies), it depends on bio-load (fish), turnover rate (flow) and any other bio-filtration on the tank.

Using monofiliment is a mess and cost way more than scrubbies too. It was tried before tha advent of plastic scrubbies.

Did you see the thread in the sticky's section too?

Actually the scrubbies I was referring to are not the ones found in Skippys link and they are much cheaper. You can find them at dollar stores 5 for a buck..

Those are exactly what I use in my sump. Raided a couple dollar stores and I was done. They do tend to float, so I keep them in place with a combination of egg crate and rubbermaid containers. They work great for me.

They won't float in the tower of a W/D where they get trickled over, but they will float in a tub just like bioballs.
