Potamogeton?

It was cheap and looked pretty, so I bought it. I Googled for it but found only "Potamogeton ***i" variety - and I don't know if that's what I have or not. It reminds me of dwarf saggitaria - only bushy.

I have read it takes quite a while to adapt after you replant it before it starts growing again, and mine has been in for over a month (maybe closer to two) - and it's neither living nor dying. It looks just like when I got it - maybe with a tiny bit of algae growing on it, and I think only now I am starting to see tiny new leaves emerging from the roots.

Does anyone know of this species and can comment on it?

I do believe you're referring to the Aponogeton genus. There's like 40-50 sp in it, but only about 5-10 that are in the trade. I've never had it stay small for more than a month or 2 before it explodes to the top of the tank that I end up having to cut back. There's a few species that stay small, but most will grow very fast and very tall. I ended up taking all mine out of the tank due to them growing so fast I got tired of trimming it, and I had a lot of herbivores that found it tasty so it looked like crap.

Don't think so. Aponogetons are all bulb plants. Potamogeton is not.

Oops, just realized that the word g-a-y is starred out... SO this plant is called Potamogeton G-a-y-i

LOL, n00b skip on my part. I didn't see they species name since it was starred out so just assumed misunderstanding... lol.
 
I'm not familiar with that species of Potamogeton, but I have tried to grow floating-leaved Potamogeton species such as P. diversifolius. My impression is that they are fragile and difficult to acclimate. They seem to prefer high light regimes.
