Potamotrygon boesemani

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i only ask as i had a ray that looked the same about 18 years ago before the digi age so no pics

when i got mine it was from a LFS in surry who claimed to have good contacts but wouldn't tell me were it was from

it had the crispest spots i had seen on a motoro and to this day it was one of the best motoro i have seen or owned

They look similar (Not exactly) to this one that Pedro brought in a couple of months
ago out of Peru. Even the tail patterns are quite similar.
He just called it an Oddball Motoro and it sold much much cheaper.
I tried to purchase it but never could get an answer on sex and price and
when he finally did reply a week later it was sold.

Very cool. I remember seeing that paper when it first came out and thought they'd be stunning rays to see live. Not a let down IMO, better than most motoro's and even better than many marbles.

Just checked it out....apparently Surinam!

This species is indeed out of Surinam, here in Holland(Holland does a lot with Surinam as it is/was a dutch colony) we had a big discussion about this and tried to get some of these via contacts.

Untill now no luck..

I have 16 P.boesemani here for some time. You can see photos of the fish on my blog. That fish from Peru does look a bit like P.boesemani but it is impossible that it is found south of the Guyana Shield (Peru) so my guess is that it is some sort of hybrid. The real boesemani is a very nice fish even at a small size, you may have to scroll down a bit to see the photos.

Amazing fish!! Really nice to finally see some live specimens!

Did you buy them form an exporter, or is it a bit more complicated than that?
