Agreed. Aparitios. Nothing new. Price is also similar to Aparitio.
PM Fishdog. He's had one for years...... You'll get better info from a PM to him then you're ever gonna get listening to a bunch of people openly agreeing to disagree here.
Jeff is using the terminology ".cf" after the genus, and prior to the species name. This denotes that the fish in questions is assumed to be or close an already described species. That does not make a 100% identification and even Jeff mentions that on his site. And good for Jeff properly listing the species as .cf at that, most vendors would not take the time to do that.
It is pretty simple, not much if any research on them, no one really knows what they are so safe bet is call it a motoro. The reality is it is a brown ray so who cares about brown rays right. Black is black so lets make up 15 names for a leo and charge an arm and a leg for them even though they are the most available ray you can buy. These rays might not be rare in the wild but I challenge you to go find one after jeff sells his off. I bought mine 3 years and 9 months ago and have only seen them for sale 1 time since then and that was 2 years ago. I only know of myself and three others that had one. Now there are probably hundreds around the world but I can only speak for the online community. These only come from one local and some look motoro when small but the spot turn black and start to connect with age. My guy came in mature at 7.5" and is now just 10 inch and is fat and happy. If you like the way they look then buy them if you don't then don't it is that simple. I say buy and enjoy. For $200 buck what have you really lost?
