Awhile back I was watching a show about manatees. I remember seeing one with a big pleco rasping all over it like a giant cleaner wrass. Proof in the pudding that plecos are highly adaptable to waters we don't normally think of them being in. They don't seem to have much difficulty adapting to cold and/or brackish conditions.

I live in Central Florida and there are definitely plecos in the springs. The water in the springs is 72 degrees year round since it comes up from deep underground. That's why the manatee go into the springs when we have a freeze, so they can keep warm. I imagine that a common pleco wouldn't have too much trouble adapting to constant 72 degree water temperature.

Thats why I only go to the springs when its cold outside, when u jump from 30* air into 73* water its so nice!

I've seen monster plecos snorkling in the springs also :)

72 degrees would be a cakewalk for big commons to live in. Wish I were in Florida right now. It's colder than %#@! here in the midwest. btw, welcome fcmonroe.
