alright, heres the background on whats going on...

about 6 months ago i was planning on making a transfer for my job that was going to completely set me up financially for the rest of my life. then, things changed, lawyers got involved and now everything is on perma-hold.

as a result of planning on moving, i sold the bulk of my fish and the tanks that held them. when i found out the move was off i bought back the bulk of my stuff and even picked up a couple used tanks (80gl, 240gl)

just got everything up and running only to find out the HOA where i live has scheduled termite tenting for the entire community and i will have to be out of the house for 36 hours in 2 weeks.

now, my question is, can i just turn off the powerheads/airstones and keep the filters running since they won't break the surface of the tank and create air bubbles. can i cover the tanks with plastic and use duct tape to seal the edges or will the poison still leak in?

has anyone else had their home tented and left their fish in the house? i'm deathly afraid of leaving my fish in the house and coming home to a bunch of dead fish.

btw, i can't put them in the garage as the garage is being tented as well. can't put them in a neighbors garage cause everyone on my street is being tented.

Wow, thats a sticky situation you are in.

I am not sure how much this could work, but what about buying a couple of big rubbermaid's with some sponge filters and heaters, and then take them with you to where you are going?

as much as i would like to do that, the wifey and i will be staying in a one bedroom hotelroom for the night, accompanied by our american bulldog, 2 cats, our 3.5 year old son and our 10 week old son. i'd have to pick up probably 3 or 4 rubbermaids to accomdate all of the fish i have to keep from having a monster fish fight/fish eaten in the middle of the night, plus i have to be out of the hotel by noon the next day and can't go into the house until 5pm of the day we leave the hotel.....

i'm actually considering putting the fish outside at this point if it isn't going to be safe to keep them in the house.

I would be afraid to leave them in the house. How about if you move them outside buying a cheap tent to put around them.

I may be tottally wrong ( never even saw the procedure you mention ) but if the tanks are covered, well covered with plastic, and the filtration circuits don't allow for air to come into the tanks ( no air stones etc also), why should this be a problem? are we talking atomic radiation or something of the sort?

It's risky to leave the fish in the house even covered. Can you leave the fishes with a family member or friend that isn't being tented? If you can, that would be a better option instead of taking them with you in a small hotel room with the load you are already taking.:D

i would get some clear plastic and cover up the whole shibang, stand and all and just ductape it to the floor all the way around. shuffeling the fish is too risky imo.
