Not the first time the bug killers ran across this predictament...Ask them what they suggest...get it in writing...;)

well, the company doing it is run by mexicans that barely speak english. in fact, they are trying to get us to sign an agreement not holding them responsible for ANYTHING if they break anything or anything is missing from the house. i doubt they're going to have any clue if this stuff is toxic to my fish

"shuffeling the fish is too risky imo."

thats my fear, alot of the fish have in the last 2-3 weeks been transported from/to different tanks and spent alot of time in small holding tanks.

moving them from house to house (my parents live 5 miles away) and back again in under 48 hours seems like too much of a shock on their collective systems.

:nilly:

Ive had this situation twice where the house has to be sprayed because of
pests in the house. I did the risky move and just covered my tank with plastic and taped it. Luckily, all t he fish survived the ordeal. I dont know how its going to be with fumigation because that would be more intense than just spraying .

I would do the safe thing and move all the fish out. When its ready to move the fish back in, i would also do a major water change . Good luck and keep us posted.

I am sure that this problem is somewhat frequently encountered by not only aquarists, but also by the termite removal companies. I would consider contacting the one your HOA is using, and asking about their experiences in these situations. That may help you to make the most informed decision possible. -Andrew

There must be a way to contact the company doing the extermination to find out what they are using. It is possible they are not using insecticide, but heat, which might be worse. What they do is pump hot air into the tent bringing inside temp to 140deg F. If they do this for only a short periode of time I would say your fine. If it is for an extended periode well then your fish are cooked:eek:. If they use insecticide, only way to do it would be to tent your tanks and use a fan ducted to outside air to provide positive pressure in your tanks tent.

In any event I wish you the best of luck, truely a ****ty situation

tough situation. are you able to get your hands on a small oxygen tank? That could help you tent off the tanks and still get fresh oxygen, that has not been contaminated, into the water.
