Quote from the seller:

"I have a silver Arowana I want to sell he is 18 inches. He is in great condition and has NO issues with eating. I feed him raw beef, shrimp and fish sticks"

What do you guys think of this guy? He is a local seller, and has this guy locked up in a 90 gallon :( I want to get a larger arowana, and dont wanna wait to grow mine out. lol, but judging by the pictures, why does his back look so dark? It doesn't have a consistant silver sheen on the guy like I have seen on other silvers. I know the photos aren't perfect (I didn't take them, they are directly off the ad) but what are your impressions on this guy? Anything I should look for when I go visit this fish today?

mate.. patience pays.. take your time.. you are better off raising an aro from little cos you would know it like the back of your hand.. whereas if you are going to take a larger aro.. would you have a larger tank? appreciate that you are sad that it is in a 90G.. saving it is another thing.. even if the seller gives you a list of feed that the aro accepts.. it will take the aro some time to get used to new surroundings and might not eat for a week or more.. and then you'd be breaking off your head wondering what the hell happened.. my largest has that black (not black, but dark back), whereas the next largest doesn't.. i guess it varies with surroundings..tank backgrounds etc.. the aro has drop eye.. check the condition of the tank.. if it is clean and well filtered etc.. is the fish active.. post all this and you still decide to take it.. really large aros shouldn't cost a lot.. the larger ones most people want to sell cos they cant handle them anymore or house them adequately.. as an example.. i was offered a two footer for 65 quid.. i asked the aro for 12 pounds.. and the guy actually agreed to give it.. but i never picked it up.. finally how are you planning to move the fish.. well all the best.. cheers

There's some drop eye going on. I wouldn't take it, personally, unless this is purely an act of mercy to save it from a 90g.

Agree on that the price of that fish shouldnt be high due to its a large one and most people just wanna get rid of them.

As for the DropEye. As far as i know, most or almost all Silvers will eventually get the DropEye so it shouldnt be a factor if your buying a small or a large one. I might be wrong tho but i'm pretty sure. =)

are you in London, Ontario? if so, silvers are extremely easy to find around here. maybe you should come see me for an asian aro?

This would be a no go for me. Bad diet and raised the wrong way. Drop-eye is bad on its right side. It's not true that all silver arowanas will get drop-eye but most do because of injuries or unhealthy diet. All silver arowanas have the dark ban running down the back, it acts as camouflage, hiding the fish from prey and predators above the water. The color varies from fish to fish. You should raise a new 4-8" silver. It pays to invest small and build your way up!!
