Potential piranha problem

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve missed the last few replies. Just a quick update on my flashing little friend. I’ve managed to get those nitrates down to a decent 5-10ppm. I’m doing 50-60% water changes once a week and testing the water every other day. All seems fine in that area, consistent PH, GH and KH. Still 0 ammonia and nitrites. He seems to have improved a little.. but not by much. The flashing is still happening, just maybe not as frequent. Also he’s started hanging around the filter, underneath and around the intakes. I have good surface agitation so I wouldn’t have thought oxygen would be a problem.. No sign of any white spots (I was waiting a week to see if any developed). However, his breathing COULD be rapid.. given I’ve never owned this species before, I can’t judge what constitutes as rapid gill movement. I’ve thought about gill flukes or just flukes in general as a last ditch answer for it.. honestly I see no other symptoms after a week of the flashing starting. My buddy reports no flashing in his tank. I’m half tempted to throw some API general cure of seachem paraguard in.. any experience with juvenile RBP’s and paraguard? I’ve heard the malachite green can be nasty for them. What do you guys think? Half doseage or stay clear of it?

Thanks everyone

Would wait. Sometimes breathing it could be from the water changes.
