Potential Stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll make sure there are lots of hiding places, territories, etc.

I have a hospital tank I could use if need be.

I remeasured the tank space and there is a way to fit a 100g 60 x 18 x 21.

How different would potential stocking be in a 5ft tank versus a 4ft tank?

It's very hit and miss with JD's, I have a JD who has filleted everything other than an electric yellow (no idea why they get along) he's not full grown so yours could be more calm. I would start with something you don't mind loosing because yours could be the same way mine is. Best of luck!

Mines very chill but he's alone...so maybe it just takes his competitive juices flowing to get him into a killer.

With tanks, bigger is almost always better (actually can't think when it's not better) more space generally reduces aggression, and can provide more hiding places. I don't think your stocking options are going to change much, and you probably won't get guarantees that you may not have challenges down the road, but if it's a new tank, and the all fish go in at once, it's probably the best option you will ever get to introduce roommates to your JD.

So a bigger tank will give me better shot at keeping multiple cichlids but won't guarantee anything...hmm. Well I'm going to try to get a 100g, if not a 75g and a 90g...I may go a simpler route if I get a 75 or 90 and just aim for a female JD.

the 100g would be awesome, it's my ideal tank size.

You could have your JD among other medium/large sized cichlids to an extent in that size.

What would you suggest?

I was thinking add a Convict, Firemouth, and Rainbow if I get the 100g.
