Does anyone know how long it takes for pothos to establish itself and begin taking nutrients from the water? I have mine emersed. Just the roots under water and the rest of the plant above. I have plant lights on it as well. Thanks

It depends on the cutting. I have had some cuttings have nice size roots in a couple of weeks, other cuttings seem to take forever to get started. Have yet to work out what to do different between them yet.

They have grown some roots. Does that mean they are actively filtering already? ANd what about taking established plants out of pots whole. No cuttings and putting the roots directly in after a little trimming? Do those roots immediately start filtering also or do they have to grow new "water roots" first?

Check out the sticky below for some info and yes they need to re establish hydro roots and usually takes a few weeks to start consuming ammonia/nitrates.

Actually you're whom I'm waiting to reply at this thread. lol.

Thanks F1. I kind of went through that sticky before posting. Got most of my info n ideas from there. I didn't really see the info u just gave me in that thread hi concerning reestablishment and how fast they get to work. There are a lot of pages in that thread lol. Concerning hydro roots, do the old ones die back or do the hydros just start growing as an extension of the old system? If the old system does die that will cause an ammonia spike won't it? The ones that have grown new roots are actively filtering at this point correct?

Sorry for all the questions in a small space. Lol. Mfk would be really cool if we could actually talk to each other somehow! There's a million dollar idea for you computer guys. Make forums w live action conversations. Lol
