I doubt you'll see much by way of roots dying off but you should see a lot of growth.

Think about it this way--there's only so much mass in the tank, right? So if the plant is growing, all that new plant matter has to come from somewhere, no? The more plant growth you see, the more nasty is being taken out of the tank.

Pretty much. The roots seem to thicken up and get tough then after awhile they get skinny and branch out. Kind of cool to see
