Hiya,

I arrived home from work last Wednesday, and discovered 4 dead parrots in my tank - there had been a power failure for the whole day in my suburb. :naughty:

What was interesting, though, was that it was only the parrots that were dead. The other fish were very lethargic, but have survived the ordeal alright. Perhaps the parrots needed more oxygen than the other fish? I don't know.

Here is a description of my tank:

The parrots are no longer on the list :(

sorry for your loss..power failures usually lead to tragic results especially if it is out for a long time.. :(

it took them out in 1 day??? I am sorry for your loss, but I have lost power for one day too with no negative effects. What is water temp? Maybe it didn't have enough O2. Still, I am sorry

Yeah, I was puzzled as well. There are some big fish in the tank but, as far as I am aware, it is not overstocked. I keep the tank at 25 degrees celcius - when I found the dead parrots, the temperature was 22 degrees i.e. it had not dropped that much. It was probably a lack of oxygen that took them out, but why only the parrots?

P.S. Yeah, Red Devil, power failures are bad news. :irked:

Hello, Onion1 and DasArab

When the power was out, I lost only the Parrots - the other fish survived ok. When you had a power failure, were there Parrots in your tank and did they survive alright? I am puzzled that only one type of fish died in my tank. I was thinking that maybe the Parrots somehow need more O2 than other fish? I dunno.

Cheers.

hmmm...just the parrots I'm sorry for your lost.

Hey my fellow South African! I hope we kick butt in the rugby this weekend! These power failures suck man. I have 2 Parrot Fish and they survived fine when the power went out. But I noticed they swim around the top for air more than the other fish. I thinks it's coz they're genetiacally engineered fish that they aren't as great as other fish in handling O2 deficiencies. How big were your Parrots? Shame dude, it must suck a lot coz I really love mine and I would cry id they had to die. They have so much personality. I hope you can find some more. :)
