Hi all, got myself some Cicla Ocellaris a few days ago, now when i went to collect them the seller said they were 4 inch, which is what i was after so they could go with my other fish which a lot bigger and one is a TSNxRT at around 9 inch.
When i got there they were more like 4cm:nilly:
I realy wanted some Cichla and there isnt may about for sale at the minute so i still got them.
Now obviously i didnt want them in with the other fish untill a lot bigger, i have seen that fish csan be power fed to geth to grow quicker, is it OK to do this to Cichla without harming them?
I have just got them taking glass worm, they seem to love them and have been taking a lot realy for there size. What if i should do give them to power feed them for a quick growth.

Here a pic form this morning.

I broke up pieces of massivore, 1 month later he can eat the whole pellet.
in fact he eats 3-4 pellets at each feeding twice a day...if I let him he would eat himself sick...:nilly:

got at 3"-4" he's now 6-7" including tail..

Power feeding is always good for cichla with what ever they will take dry tilapia fillet chopped up shrimp just about any thing but i must warn ya the p's will never catch up to your cat and unless you can provide a tank that is very large talking about 1000 gall and up they will be the cats dinner or snack at some point this is from personal experiance .......

I am in the beginnings of building a 500g, then next year a 1300g-1500g tank for the cat and rays, if need be the P Bass can stay in the 500g.
What size were your cat P bass when they was eaten?
I thought in the correct conditions/tank size Ocellaris can get to over 2 foot easyly.

I will see about getting them on some decent pellets asap then:)

The p's can and will gain size quikly but after 14 to 15 inches it seems to slow quite a bit ..And My RTC was about nine inches and very well feed but was still greedy and took down not only a 7 inch p'bass but an 8 inch gold severum :eek::eek: and enough was enough for me LOL!!!!

Better watch my cat bahaves then as i have 3 4 inch silver dollars in there with two 6inch gold severums. He has never shown any interest in them but they have been together since my cat was 2 inch and now 9 inch and the dollars were just over 1 inch.

So was my sev and he showed no interest just woke up one morning to a fat cat !!!!

yeah they are sneaky like that, had to get rid of mine due to waking up to a "fat cat" a few times. my old 14" tsn x rt took down a 10" clown knife with no problem, than a few weeks later i woke up to my 8" channel catfish's backside hanging out of the big cat's mouth.

Agreed with the above.....I would get rid of your cat if you really want your cichla. We had a RT x TSH cat and it grew faster than any fish i ever had. It was cute and innocent then it started growing and eating everything! A 9" RT x TSH could eat a 4" cichla no problem. Craziest thing i seen was the cat ate our birchir the moment i put it in the tank. And the birchir was about an the same length as the cat. Ill never get another catfish as long as i want to keep whatever else is in the tank!
