Hi Guys..

Its nearly time for my 1000l tank to arrive and im wondering about installing some power heads. I have been looking at all the best ones like Ehiem, Hydor but cant seem to find one that also creates aeration as well...

could any of you guys help me out here???
im going to be running my FX5 for filtration in my new tank when it arrives in 2 weeks (cant wait!) :)

Also - thinking about a UV unit - opinions?

Cheers

Shane

With proper filtration and powerhead layout (powerheads aren't even necessary in some cases) you won't need aeration in the form of bubbles in the tank. Really depends on what you want to spend, Eco-tech is the top of the line and the Koralia's are affordable.

Im not really concerned about the money on this - the tank is 8 feet long so im thinking that i will deffinatly need a power head as the FX5 is only 2,300 litres per hour and i dont think will supply enough current. What i have seen is that the ecotech keeps the unit mostly out of the tank to decrease the footprint of the powerhead inside the tank but this isnt a concern for me due to the size of the new tank... i was thinking about the Hydor Koralia 4 which is 1,200 GPH. its just to make sure the water is flowing all around the tank for filtration and heat.

You will want more filtration. I am running a Fluval 306 and an AC50 on my 40 gallon. so a tank that big, you will want more.

I run 2 fx5s on my 240 and am thinking its not enough. Gonna add a 50 gallon sump too. 1 fx5 is not enough filtration imo.

Most large powerheads have a venturi adaptor, if not, you can acquire a venturi tube that turns any powerhead into a powerful aerator.

above, a venturi I use to create aeration in a fractionator.

The filtration completly depends on your stock! If you have 1 or 3 smaller fish then there isnt a problem but if you have 6-12 messy fish then frankly 1 fx5 will not suffice.

For instance i have 1 fx5 1 ac110 on my 90gal BECAUSE i have 5 5-6" rb piranha so anything less and im vacing the tank everyday!

Just depends what you go with
