parrots are lookin real good PP. don't they take like 3+ years to reach breeding age? can't remember for sure but I thought I read that somewhere.
H. nicaraguense has several common names....macaw cichlid, parrot cichlid (I think this is an older common name and isn't used much any more), Nicaraguan cichlid and I think there might be one or two more. when people refer to the "true (or real) parrot cichlid" though they mean H. psittacus.
that's the problem with common names...the same common name can refer to several different fish. that's why learning scientific names is best. took me a while to start remembering them but I finally did. now when I see a fish I think more of it's species name rather than its common name.
I see...hehe... got kinda confused because I thought the Nics were the "true parrot cichlids" as opposed to the parrot fish hybrids. Thanks for clearing that up.
I'm only getting 1 Urau. I already have 1 but wanted more. I guess i'll have to settle for just having 2. They got snatched up before i could even get word to Jeff that i was interested but i doubt if i could afford more than 1 more at $250 a pop. its supposed to be in the 40's here in Denver on Weds. so hopefully the fish will make it here safely.
Jason, yeah, it does take them quite a while, although I've heard of them spawnin at 18 months...but we'll see. I'm not completely sure i have both sexs...might all be males...:S
