Power Outage :-(

40 hours later, my power is still not back. This is upsetting. At this point, after mulling it over for so long, I'm convinced that the fish themselves will be fine...I'm worried about the ecosystem though.

I moved to Seattle because of Hurricane Katrina. I lost all my fish then. This is getting annoying.

Thanks for the links, Chile! I'll need to get a generator.

Are you just worried about the polypterus?

Can't they breathe air like anabatoids? You just need to worry about heat loss.
 
My powers been out since Thursday night.. Did everything I can to keep my fish alive before I fled, hopefully power comes in the morning I'm not sure how much longer they'll survive the 20ish degree nights..
 
Dam that sucks. Your bichirs should be fine. Mine were when the power went out for a long time but its just the temperature that you should be woried about.

The portable units are great. Used it during the blackout in NYC 2004 I think or 2003, that lasted for 3 days. I have 3 of these units and it powered my fan, small tv and of course the cordless phone.

I haven't had the unfortunate experience of using it with a fish tank since I got back into fish keeping recently, but I will get 2 more of the portable units for my new tank setup tho.

Also thinking of looking into solar panels to charge a few heavy duty amp batteries that will power a few inverters.

It's sunday now, still no power in my area. I have a feeling the only thing that will survive is my Polypterus and Gouramis =X I'm really not looking forward to a mass burial.. Blah I'm just a bit frustrated and venting..
 
Figured id give an update. 5 days no power now.. so far ive lost half my cory cats, 1 needlefish, 1 gourami and maybe my peacock eel since i couldnt find him. my bichir seems ok but moving slowly. sorry about my punctuation, capitalization etc as my only connection is on my celphone.

Damn that sucks. My power came back on Sunday around noon. I feel for you.

If you're staying where you are for a while, Id get the generator and a UPS (or 2) for when you need to gas up or in case you not there and the generator isnt hooked up to work when power goes off.

I'm from Gretna, actually!! My mom lives on Willowbrook. I was living in MidCity when Katrina hit though.
