powerhead not

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
plug it in, if its humming and you can hear it, give the propeller a turn. some of my pumps will do this and they just need a little spin.

tried it thanks for the suggestion thought i think i am going to have to suck it up and buy a new one

Ahh...the life of a Craigslister! :nilly:

I've had them do this from time to time as well, usually there's some gunk in there keeping the magnets from connecting correctly. Try washing it with as much pressure as you can get on it, let dry out completely, smack it on it's side a little...usually you can get em to come back to life by tinkering!

Yep. A good scrub is a great start. I have a powerhead that used to clog almost every week. I unplug it to clean it, and it won't restart unless I bop the output with the palm of my hand to wiggle the impeller a bit. I think they made the magnetic fields a little too small or something. I just leave it running all the time now and use it as a poo blower so it's not a crucial filtration component..

that usally works too.

How much do you have invested in it? ie What percentage of the package you bought off CL would you say was for the pump? Hopefully not much.

Check the impeller since that is literally the only moving part. Make sure no parts of it is not broken. Clean the housing by scrubbing with a toothbrush or something. Put the impeller back in and make sure it straight with a snug fit. Plug it in and listen for any response. If there is any noise whatsoever the motor is probably okay. You can plug it up and then out and back in to see if it catches and start working. And try to kickstart with a slap of the hand (I usually hit it while it is on its side). Beyond that if the motor is fine you may need a new impeller. Since you bought it from an individual check to be sure that is the correct impeller. Also a question to anyone can the impeller get demagnetized that they don't work?

Thanks guys i will try that to lujor i got a steal on the tank so i am not sweating it to much im going to try all tis right now and if i get it to go i will let you know Thanks again

well the motor is good because when i pull the impeller out like halfway it starts to spin the magnet but still not working

i picked up a new one for 5 bucks it works so im happy
