hi all

i am hopefully getting a 50 USG tank and will fit it with a canister filter. i wanted to put a powerhead in the tank but am not sure whether to put a second filter in instead for extra filtration and an emergency incase my canister breaks.

the powerhead/filter would provide flow and airation.

thanks
Matt

I think you need to provide a little more information. What are you stocking the tank with? That info will help people provide you advice on filtration.

O.K sorry

i will be stocking a 50USG with a rainbow snakehead, delhzi bichir, either a sal or a texas cichlid and a shoal of something (yet to be decieded, these will live in the tank for life)

other than the shoal, these fish will not be kept until adulthood

thanks-sorry for lack of infomation the first time!

I would go with the additional filtration, if I had to choose between the two. It will move the water and help clean the water.

Right now I'm setting up a 75 and will be getting a canister filter. I have a penguin biowheel 200 setup on a 29 gallon tank that I'm going to move (along with the fish in that tank) to the 75. I won't make the move until after the new year but if it seems like there still isn't enough water movement I'm going to add a powerhead.

Go with the two filters, you didn't specify what canister, but an AC110 (HOB) for the other filter.

Route the canisters return to the bottom of the tank to keep water movement and garbage suspended.

Well Dr Joe... I didn't know you were an AC fan :D

I agree with Dr Joe's choice... it's the best bang for the buck filter out as far as I am concerned, Tons of power and not to shabby for power consumption ... if thats an issue you could always get the AC70 as it's a low wattage model with decent flow and more than adiquite for your 50 Gallon as a stand alone or as a secondary.

thanks

i'm in engalnd so havent heard of any of these makes of filters!! i don't know if you have them over there but i was going to get the tetrec E700.

do you guys have the aquaball over in america?? if so, would that be a good choice?

thanks
Matt
