Hey guys. I have some current/flow questions. Tank is a 20G long (30.5"x12"). I have an AquaClear 20G powerhead & AquaClear 50G HOB filter. Both are in the back left corner of the tank & both intakes are less than an inch apart from each other. I did this thinking that the hi flow of the powerhead would help pull everything to one spot & make the filter intake more efficient. My questions:
Since the powerhead is pulling so much more water, is it actually pulling particles AWAY from the filter, instead of helping?
Should I move the powerhead to the back right corner of the tank, so the filter is on the receiving end, with the water being pushed towards it (instead of pulled to it)?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Couldn't be 100% on this, but there is always the possibility. I would move it over a little bit and see if you notice a difference. Try pointing the output of the powerhead towards the filter intake.

Yeeea! yeeeeea! That's what I was trying to say, pointing the Phead output at the filter intake from a short distance away (or from across tank). You think that might work better? Hell, it could be fine as is right now! I dont know. Gimme some input. Thanks!

yes, too close ,move your PowerHead towards the waterline an the HOB intake below it ,low towards the bottom of the aquarium , you might want to use a extension this works for me the PH creates a current that should end at your HOB intake

Gotcha. That sounds like a sound theory to me! Now...how do I extend the aquaclear HOB intake? It only reaches about half way deep in the tank. The Whispers I use at home came with extensions, but my AquaClear didn't. It came with an extra intake tube for some reason instead. Or does that fit over the other one & act as the extension?

sounds like your ready

Agree with Pharaoh, even if your powerhead is rated higher GPH than your filter, the powerhead will blow any debris toward the filter.

I moved the PHead up higher to the waterline & the filter seems to be grabbing plenty of floaties now. I may still try the blow-out thing if this doesnt get it all. Thanks agin!
