My APC backups won't run my XP3 cannister filters. They just rattle. I guess the supplied voltage from the UPS isn't regulated enough for them. The power heads have no problem (Maxijet 1200 and 2 Vortec) but the media may not outlast a long outage. My protein skimmers on my salt tanks seem to be okay as well.
I am planning on buying a Honda generator before the winter season to run all of the tanks just in case (if I happen to be home, that is). The generator may cost $1000 but just the cost of replacing my aro would be more than that.
