Praying mantis

I bought a Mantis egg case off of Ebay once. I easily had a hundred little guys and gals.

Nice mantis...I used to keep them when I was a kid.
 
I kept several Mantis when I was a kid. I caugt house fly and grass hoppers to feed them. It's fun to watch them catch the fly in mid air. But I had to give up keepting Mantis one day abruptly. I kept two Matis in one cage for a long time and it's fun to watch them face off and box each other from time to time. I didn't know Mantis were canibal. One day I came home from school and saw one Mantis eating the other. The head was gone, he was chewing down his neck, but the prey was still very much alive and breathing. It was so gross to me that I released them and never to keep Mantis again.
 
I come across the egg cases in my yard from time to time.

I would bet that you had a male and female, and that you had caught them during the end of mating. The female almost always eats the male starting with the head after the've mated.

Iv had a few. Iv been considerjng geetting some exotic ones
 
wow very nice.. are they hard to keep.. what is their life span...?
 
The majority are really easy to keep, just in an old plastic container. Some of the exotic one are really difficult though, they need heat, and the right humidity. The lifespan is about a year
