Pre filter on a Eheim 2262?

Are any of you running pre-filters on your Eheim 2262's or Fluval FX5's?

I do not use a pre-filter on mine because it clogs too quickly.

If you decide to use one, check/clean it frequently to avoid reduced suction problems.

No. I can't see a pre filter lasting more than a few hours before needing to be cleaned. Flow is definitely going to be reduced.

I run pre-filters on my Rena filters and my aqua-clears but not on my big filters (FX-5)

Bad idea unless you clean very regularly . I was looking at flow reduction a while back when I put a fx5 on my wifes 55 goldie, what I read was to reduce output, damage can happen when reducing water coming in via heat buildup. So I guess it could be bad if flo is reduced from build up on sponge.
