oh yea Davey great post!

but i put black electrical tape on my light ( you are thinking what a moron, um no, florsent lights dont heat up, so the tape wont either) if you do candy stripes on it it will work great, or even 1 long strip across the botttome. i did both.

you add how much it says for your size aqurium and then it clouds he water temparly, then it goes away and gives the water a little tint, replcates the amazon ( duh where p's r from ) puts viatmans in the water, makes p's more active. ( truly you will notic a diffrence ) i dono guess it makes them "feel at home"?

if u were to dim the light with black electrical tape and get black water, i gaurntee you piranha (s) would be alot more active / happyer ( if thats a word )

yea pellets, flakes, i belive frozen food was once alive, when they were alive probly ate plant matter.
fresh seafood from the market was once live and ate plant matter
 
But filets have no stomachs!! lol So would pinky mice work later on? (frozen of course!!) Or something a little bigger, that was on to solid food? If I got a male hamster I could make my own pinkies (we have 2 female hamsters!!)

Where can I get my hands on some of that blackwater stuff?

Plus, Brian's got some leftover window tinting from his truck, would that work just as well?:D

BTW, my hermit crab tank is at a steady 80* because of 2 flourescent lights!!
 
i dono what kind of floresent lights ur running, but as an electrican i kno they dont produce heat unless its a reptime light made to produce heat.


window tint, sorry i'd say no because its transparent,

black water i belive any pet store. its in a yellow bottle, very cheap price its amazing stuff.

they were alive at one point, you eat a chiken leg it doesnt have a stomach but still has benifites to eating, filetts and shrimp are great for p's and bring out the color in them.

and yea frozen mice are good, you can get like packs of 6 at my lps for cheep. i havent tried it. dont waste your money tho get "whip" onto "non-living" foods first

Mine are standard fish tank lights!!

I also have a standard flourescant on top of Whip's tank, and it gets warm, but not toasty. I always twist the bulb out of the tracks to turn it on and off.

I also have the ceiling fan light on a half hour before, and after I do this, as it's part of my daily "lights on/out" routine!!

DANGIT!! I was hoping it was....too bad, it's 5%. *Will hunt down the blackwater shtuff*

Those lights are basking lights, UV bulbs for herps aren't supposed to get hot either.
 
as for you rutine for lights, i used to have mine, then some days i'd over sleep or w/e, so i went to Lowes and got a $6 timmer, you can make it turn on whenever and off whenever. good investment.
 
I'd probably have to pick up quite a few....my room looks like a menagerie!!
An Iguana cage with 2 igs in it (my fiance's supposed to be building one for his male!!) 1 goldfish tank, Whip's tank, 2 hamster cages, and 1 hermit crab cage!! lol Then in my office, a tarantula tank! >.<

Thanks for the suggestions, we have a Lowe's right in town, across the street from Meijer's where I'm getting my 29!!

but as for rooms mine goes like this -->
30g. bearded dragon tank
30g. salt water tank
55g. comunity tank
30g. Red belly piranha tank
10g. feeder with a divider, tuffies get 3/4 of the tank, large gold fish 1/2
and last but probly one of my fav's my 5 g. hex from walmart with my tetras, i dont kno what it is about it but i like it, maby its the fine gravel and the drift wood, i dono.



( but make sure to get bio spria for the 30 g when u get it. . . . . . . your p wont eat anything unless the tank if 100% cycled )
