Hey guys and gals Hendre here.
I saw another thread that gave an idea of stocking with a rainbow wolffish, a fish i thought can only be kept on its own, with a bichir and large dithers (like filament barbs)
But barbs are super expensive here and so are nost ideal large dithers.

Once the goldfish are outside i would like to redo the tank (120cm X 45cm X 45cm)

There are 2 filters in my tank, a large air powered sponge and an air powered sponge+matrix hybrid i built that i want to do away with to keep for backup and get an aquaclear 90 or 110 for the tank.

Tank scaping will be driftwood, black gravel and background and tall backfround plants for cover.

My stocking list as of now:
1 x rainbow wolf fish for mid level
1 or 2 x smaller bichir specie for bottom
A top dwelling pred or similar

So i have a few questions:

1- will the bichirs or wolf harass each other for territory or any other reason?
2- will i need to provide hiding space? Like rooty wood or thick planting?
3- is there a nice top dwelling fish that can live with these fish?
4- will 30% WC a week be ideal?
5- are there any other cool fish that might be good? Was thinking african knife but they might not get much food.

Any other input is appreciated have a great day people!! :)

1. They are both carnivorous fish by nature and territorial by nature so they would compete for land and food so yes
2. Yes rainbow wolf come from areas that are heavily planted so it would be best to mimic that even tho they are probrally breeder in bare tanks anyways, it would also help reduce aggression
3. Wouldn't recommend anything unless you can find a fish around the same size as them with similar behavior
4. Yes but from time to time you would need to do a little more about 75% because all the nitrates would slowly creep up on you
5. No idea

I would go w/ the Emperor 400......I hear people say the Aquaclear are better but the numbers still point to the EMP as being better, higher powered

Consider a large canister filter. Can do two AC 110 and get away with it but will be doing like wc's every other day.

I've kept the same tank with same fish mentioned and never had issues. No need to provide hiding spots. Plants and driftwood are optional. You will likely need 50% wc twice a week and depending on how you feed and tank size. African knife is fine to add. This fish will need something to hide as it may get bullied. Other top dwellers that I've done are Apollo sharks, hujeta gars, Chalceus, and cudas. These fish will need some tank space. They like to be I groups.

The only thing I will say is this. Will likely look at upper jaw polys.

Try and get a small red wolf to grow with the fish. So it'll learn to tolerate tankmates. Also don't feed feeders or try to avoid it.

Thanks guys, the most WC I can get away with is 60% due to parents seeing it as a 'waste of water' so maybe heavy planting will help me there.

As for cudas and chalceus I think my tank is waaaay to small, and apollo sharks are to small (3-4"?).

In regards to the filter emperor filters are not imported here so that would be an issue, aquaclear 110 is my best bet for this without getting a canister.

Finally I am going to avoid feeders completely, I want to feed shrimp, pellets, krill and raw fish

Watch ur waste as a tank like that will need to be atleast 75g and for polys and a red wolf. The refuse will be lots. Get some pothos plants for sure.

Ac 110's hold a decent amount of bio great filter eay to maintain. Never kept wolf fish but other members have lept them with polys with no issues. Do you know what type of polys you have ?

I am getting marbled or any other specie that stays under 30CM, any ideas?

Marble sounds like palmas palmas. Which is ok to get.

Wild caughta will get 13-14 inches. So maybe over 30cm like 32-33cm if my conversion table is right.

I will see what is available, def getting black gravel cause I got some black sand from a friend for my betta tank and it looks AWESOME
