I totally understand that the Festae being one of the last fish swimming, and the Salvini is a tough little fish, currently #2 in the pecking order. But you ruled out the Jack Dempsey, Beani, and the Green Terror. All should out grow the Salvini. Do Salvinis have that much grit?
The comment was not meant to be taken 100% literally. I think it is going to depend on the individual fish, and for all I know it could work out without too many issues. My experience with salvini is not that they are any more capable than other fish, but seem to have very good instincts about what to challenge, when to challenge it, and when to give up. I will be jealous if it works out, my 3" pollini won't tolerate anything else in a 125.

Not going to work. Your starting with 8 adult convicts and the rest juvenile fish. Convicts going to tear up the place. About every 1 1/2 feet their going to be a pair of convicts.

Beani when young are also prone to bloat and do best on a plant based diet where a lot of those fish will benefit from a higher protein diet... I foresee what robham said to be around the final outcome. Convicts will not grow large but they will grow quick enough that the parents will not be eaten by the larger fish. And as others said, breeding pairs are nasty. I've had pairs dominate agressive cichlids over twice their size. I don't see a great outcome with this.... but it sounds like the gears are already in motion so we'll just have to see lol.
