My lfs got a shipment and they have some “pike characin” that were about 4’. I’m wondering could I keep them with my rainbows. i really don’t want to sell my rainbows cuz they’re coloring up real nice. They said they could also include redtail barra too

Yes. The pike characin is most likely also sold as striped gar or spotted gar. These guys grow to 8-10'' but slowly. They aren't aggressive predators like a payara.
Will eat smaller fish so don't put them with fish small enough to eat.
Put some plastic plants on top to help them feel secure.

ok so no cudas cuz the rainbows will make the tank a little crowded and may stress them out. I've heard that hujetas grows pretty fast so im little worry

hejuta grow fast. Mine got twice as big in 3weeks. they dont really like strong current. But its okay as long as a part has less current. They will stay most of their time in a slow current spot.
your rainbows will end up as food when they get larger.

Also why would u even put a red tail in there? they get 8x times as big as the other fish so ofcourse the red tail is gone eat them all and cant be housed together for a long period.

Obviously i knew that I take back red tails…so my only choice was the mosaic gar.
