I'm looking for a predatory fish for a saltwater aquarium. I'm planning on putting it by itself with no tankmates.I need to set up the saltwater aquarium, but I want to know in advance. I am not going for a shark or ray , because I'm not an advanced aquarist. Can anybody tip me off on what fish would be "perfect"?
Thanks

If you have a lot of choices of saltwater preditors but if you want a single one with some personality I would go for a puffer or trigger, and if you have a big enough tank you could go for a grouper.

I would personally do a clown trigger, very appealing to look at with a deadly set of teeth.

Ok if you want the perfect predator... you'll have to go with a shark... honestly they were bred to hunt and kill... Coral catsharks and marbled catsharks stay under 30 inches and can be kept in tanks less than 180 gallons... I have some video if you would like to see them in action.

if you want a ultimate killing fish that will kill anything that hit's the water you should put a blue fish (sw prianha) in there. If you live along the alantic ocean you can catch them at this time of year. I kepted a few a while back and all i can say is wow. Anything that hit's the water is good as dead.

How big a tank? Lionfish and panther groupers are sweet but there are lots to choose from ranging from wicked little sculpins to groupers bigger than you are (unless you are more than 10' tall). By the way, welcome to MFK.

a lionfish.
