predatory tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
*smacks face* can I just have a good idea for a predatory tank.
If i do feed them live stuff its rare

why not get some bichirs? they're not super active killers, but they fall within the size and they do hunt when they like. if not that, you could get some exodons

I'd say either get exodons, or buy a 10g tank off craigslist and breed some convicts as feeders for something else.. cons are cheap and easy to take care of and they're much more attractive than pretty much any other feeder ive seen.

Get a trio of Freshwater Butterflyfish I've heard they're great to watch and when you upgrade to a 55gal you could get a pair of Ctenopoma and a Senegal Bichir. (African Predator Tank....AKA my future set up)

yes i have funny fish but not what im looking for iam looking for some fish that will be fun to watch wen they inhale the ocasional feeders but can stay on pellets flakes frozen etc.
If this is what you really want,a predator is not what you are looking for.Look into omnivores.

It sounds like you do not really want a predator. Predators don't eat flakes and pellets with out alot of starving and other cruel training methods.

false....i got both my rays and bichirs to eat pellets the first time they hit the water. so have lots of other people...try talking to people in the stingray and bichirs forums, they will tell u the exact same thing. there are also other methods to train predators to eat pellets other then starvation. marination of the pellet in the fishes favorite food often is found successful. there are only a few predator fish that wont take a pellet.....

Why not widen your horizons a bit? There are lots of great fish that aren't "predatory" in the traditional sense, but are still really fun to watch. My silver dollars go into feeding frenzy mode when it comes to flakes, and you could easily keep some spotted ones in a 55. They jump all over the place, splashing and going crazy. With them, you could still add some other bottom-feeders for activity all over the tank. Feeding feeders is something that most people who know what they're doing and understand the effects of their actions try to get AWAY from, not work toward. Possibly some more research before you buy?

iam ive been looking into it for about 2 weeks

I disagree with the bichir, they are awesome fish but I would not really consider them awesome predators. (as far as live goes) They are greedy and get really fat(which i love), but have always been by far the worst hunters in any of my tanks.

for a 55G get a solo elong piranha or a gulper.. Or go to your LFS and have a peek at what they have, sometimes your limited by that.
