Preference of Green Terror

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They were "back in the day" - I remember paying serious money in the mid-80s for some wild ones from Ecuador, if I recall. Oddly enough there were both fish with gold and white fin edges available...

I've never kept the A. stalsbergi but I've always liked the saums...

Matt

+1. If gold saums were a new discovery or were rare and difficult to find they'd absolutely be a highly coveted fish, command big money, and people would be jealous of anyone fortunate enough to have them.

its extremely easy to get a gold saum. see heres what you have to consider. the grass is always greener on the other side. when I had my gold saums I remember finding out about the true green terror aka stalsbergi I wanted one so bad I almost forgot all about my saums then I realized that if the roles wer switched I wud be thinking "omg I want a gold saum so bad its so much nicer than the stalsbergi" the gold saum looks way more exotic idc how common they are. everyone always wants whats harder to get.

That is the nature of this hobby: unavailable = desirable....available = undesirable / worthless.

It's a predictable cycle...

I like the white saum the best. The white can be just as striking as the gold/orange as long as the bands of color on the finnage are thick with the white.

And along those lines it's nice to see stalsbergi classified and available and everything, but it's not on my radar. The one on my wish list is A. sp. Jenaro Herrera. :)

I enjoy all the different types. I think I prefer the True Green Terror's appearance more than the Gold Saum. The reasons are the physical characteristics, such as the scale pattern, the facial structure, and the thick, full green mask, and hint of white edging on the tail. I know it is a weird analogy, but the True Green Terror's appearance seems to be like an exotic Saleen S7 or Ferrari, and the Gold Saum and White Saum is like a Dodge Viper, just pure American muscle. For more clarity, I like how sleek the True Green Terrors appear versus the Gold Saum or White Saum's brute, bulky appearance. I noticed some people commented with mentioning the exotic factor with the True Green Terror versus the Gold or White Saum, and I think that idea tends to be accurate, especially with me because I become very excited with beautiful, rare fish that tend to be considered more exotic or difficult to obtain. However, with that bring said, I would still love to have a wild-caught Gold or White Saum specimen because I would be interested to see the different behavioral and physical appearances of the wild-caught versus the captive bred Gold or White Saum which had been captively bred for many generations.
However, I do thoroughly enjoy the Gold Saum's and White Saum's appearance! They are certainly very beautiful, and I am still ultimately unsure of which fish's appearance I would prefer!

+1, this does tend to be an accurate portrayal. Many people tend to think green terrors, oscars, firemouths, Jack Dempseys, and etcetera are worthless, unappealing, common fish that nobody desires. I say phooey regrading that belief!
