Termites observed doing a rainy-day run along the 1950's hardwood running-boards & RentToKil will have me removing pets to the shed for 48hrs at some to-be-defined moment later this week.
Recommendations?

Cellophane-seal the tops, certainly. What else?
Do I remove the water, or just will & drain a couple of times before fish/plants/snails go back in?
Leave 80% water & sprinkle surface with fresh charcoal before cellophane-sealing?
Will I need to remove substrates also? - some are somewhat delicate & very nicely "mature" and I'm loath to screw-with.

My wife won't vote for letting the house fall down, no.

I've dealt with termites in the home years ago and I wasn't aware of any treatment that posed a danger to fish and aquariums so curious to what that company has in it's aresnal.

So you didn't have to do anything to your tanks in the house when it got sprayed? Just cover them?

No,there was no spray involved and the treatment was in the form of bait traps placed in the ground where the termites lived around the outside of the house.

There are two main types of termicide. The main group are repellents and toxic. Years ago, extremely toxic and would last many years/decades but safely regulations have removed the most effective (poisionous) products now. The second group, relatively new don't repel and can be unknowingly carried back to the nests by the foragers which wipe out colonies over a few weeks.

There are two different products on the second group which claim to be pet & fish safe. Not sure if available everywhere.

Andyroo - send me a PM for details.

The slightest change to environmental conditions, such as air temperature or quality, can seriously impact aquarium ecosystems. A structural fumigation with Vikane gas fumigant impacts the environment within tented structures in two ways that can harm these aquatic ecosystems

“Prelude” is one company's stuff <https://www3.epa.gov/pesticides/chem_search/ppls/005481-00550-20121018.pdf>, IE not RentToKill's, or at least they've not answered yet.
Prelude's specs specifically mention toxicity to fish, but is apparently also low-volatile & spray-target applied & quick to dry. As such, I should be able to seal holes, vents & recessed light passages with tape & cellophane & calk... but I'll also be floating charcoal, changing water & moving whoever I can without undue stress/damage. Rushed pond-prep will be a headache... and/or she bites me when I set the plumbing.

F fishdance , thanks & I'll check you in a few minutes, though I expect the companies will have & only offer their go-to chemicals.

well said bro

H haweyFerguson - RentToKill is suggesting keeping animals away for 48hrs. No idea how we (the humans) apply this timeline, but it does suggest a more comprehensive stuff & application, whether or not it works any better as both companies have the same warrantee.

I'm wondering how effective the sprays are when the termites mostly stay in their tunnels or inside of the wood structures, does any of the sprays soak down into the wood? Mass killing during a swarm is an easier matter.
