Ok, so i'm in the process of looking at everything for my tank, and sorting it all out but i've got a few questions, first of all, what i'm planning on getting so far (equipment wise) or what i've already got:

Tank and stand:

280US Gallon Tank (£250) Dimensions are 72x30x30
Stand made of 4x2

Stock:
1 Jardini Arowana (8")
1 Silver Arowana (10")
1 Peacock Bass (5")
1 FRT (6")
1 RTCxTSN (6")
1 Perruno (8")
1 Fire Eel (7")
5 Microlepis (4-6")

Heating:
3 Rena 300W Smart Heaters (£70)

Lighting:
1 150W MH Pendant (£80)
1 6ft T5 Light Pendant (£15)
2 6ft PC Light Pendants (£30)

Filtration
1 Fluval FX5 (£125)
2 Fluval 305 (£100)

Misc:
UV Steriliser (£???)
Denitrator (£10)

Okay, so my questions for everyone are as follows;
1. I plan on adding an Eheim filter later on and another cheaper brand (superfish) as a tester, but will the filtering on there be enough initially?
2. UV Sterilizer...What's the best way to do this on a tank of this size? I'm guessing a pond filter, in which case what do people recommend? I've only been upto 60-100Gal till now, so this is quite a big jump for me.

Also if you're wondering why the lights were so cheap i got them in a shop going into liquidation

First I would loose the Jar, they are known killer of all tankmates... Also if the FX5 is only £25 more then the 305 I would just go with a second FX5. As for the stand I would beef that up to 2x6 it will be a lot stronger. Other then that I would say you are good to go.

Yuh, i'm keeping a very close eye on him, don't worry. I really don't wanna give him up cos of his unusual colouring. He's been with tankmates since i've had him from 2" and so far no problem, but i'm well aware of the risk..

I think you misunderstood, i already have 2 305's there going onto the tank from my old tank, the FX5 is an addition for this tank.

ok yeah that will be fine

I don't run U/V any more. Once upon a time I did, and all I can say is flow rate control and proper size for water capacity. Slow is good, increases contact time, I always ran mine in-line on the return side of my sumps. If your not gonna have a sump, try putting it on one of the 305 returns possibly. 1 Question...why a Halide light? You can easily get enough light out of 2 or 3 6' florescent fixtures to blind the fish, a M/H is gonna rock their world IMO. Not to mention the heat / cost to use them. Anyhow, anything you are trying to accomplish with the U/V can be done with a good Diatom Filter run once a week for a few hours, unless you are fighting non-stop parasite issues. People seem to have forgotten how nice a diatom is, when used regularly as a preventative maintenance. I run mine for a minimum of 2 hours per tank every weekend and after every cleaning for as long as it takes to polish up the water (usually about the same 2 hours max). Anyhow, best of luck with your system and I am sure however you set it up, it is going to look great.

The MH is more cos i've got it, i probably won't use it most the time, probably mainly for Photographing the fish and so on, i don't think i'll be putting it on straight away though.

The UV is really for the FRT to prevent any parasite problems. So i'm thinking it's going to have to be a pond UV filter hooked up, as the other's don't list as 1000L capacity

i say everthing looks pretty good, only thing that worries me is that jardini. they can be pretty ruthless. my buddy has a 20" jar that would kill everything he put in the tank. he finally left him alone in the tank for a few months and slowly started adding fish.

now the tank is fully stocked and the jar doesnt pay no attention to any of the other fish. weird, he must have gotten lonely all those months and decided not to kill his new friends anymore loL!

Yuh, people have such mixed succes keeping them with other fish, as i say as stands (touch wood) i've had no problems at all with him. In fact he's pretty shy most the time and doesn't even top dwell...I'm a little concerned about adding my mate's silver to the mix but will hopefully be ok :D
