Hi,

how do you guys prepare mussle when feeding to your fish? what i've been dong is to boil the mussel a little till it opens up. then i would remove the meat , rinse in water and feed to my fish, would it be better to feed the mussel raw? or would it be better to boil a little to open the shell. ?

thanks.

cooking any fish to feed fish is a big no no as it denatures the protein.
Feed raw!
I usually dip whatever i feed in vitamins for assurance

I got some mussells and boiled them. My fish didnt seem to like them much. I still have some so ill try it raw tomorrow. I'll let you all know if they like it.

I personally always fed my puffers raw mussel meat... i get the frozen stuff that has half shell on it so no need to worry about trying to pry them open... but as mentioned, if you cook the food beforehand you end up losing a bit - a lot of the nutrition so definitely have to agree raw is better...

As for prep, i just defrost the meat in a cup of fishtank water with vitamin water and then feed...

tried to get the meat from fresh mussels , but the meat sticks to the shell in the end had to blanch the mussel just so iy opens a little and is easier to remove from the shell.
