so i found some really cool peices of wood in the ditch from a bush/swamp..... hoping they fit in my tank other wise im going to have to cut/break sections off em to make it fit there way too cool to throw away lol :( if they dont fit maybe i'll have to buy a bigger tank lmao ya right lol ...

so how do you go about preparing wood to put in your tank ? i hosed em off and i have one small peice on a 5 gallon pail soaking in just reg garden hose water right now, i have also heard of guys drilling holes and zip tieing them to a peice of flag stone or flat rock, as well stainless bolts or screws toh old em to rock... id rather not use a screw or bolt just for any reason it comes loose in my tank and a fish gets it or eats it, do i soak with bleach and water 30/70 mix (rather not use chemical slike that) or soak in vinegar and water mix ? or just water..... any help would be great :)

here are a few pics of what i got, also i found this weird red like root inside all over both peices, anyone know what it is ? i pulled out as much as i could of it ....

this is prolly my favourite out of the two of em

I usually wash them off and scrub them to get off any debris etc. Then I soak them in boiling water for a few weeks to get rid of parasites or anything that might be in the wood. I have also boiled small pieces of wood for a few hours to get rid of tannins/cleanse it. I don't trust the bleach method, so have never tried it but I know of people who do use bleach successfully.

I almost did put screws in some pieces of wood but after thinking about it decided not to. Just incase they rust or come out.

I usually put them in hot Chlorinated water, the Chlorine kills off the badies. If the pieces are small enough, I put it in a pot and boil it for an hour.

lol nope the peices are small enough, unless ya have a HUGE pot and big ass fire to boil em ! lol ... the one peice may be small enough but i dont have a pot big enough for it here at all... ive have had em soaked in reg tap water that was REALLY hot and the chlorine seemed to be VERY strong thats all i could smell when filling the cans and bucket up with the hot water, 2morrow i will just put reg garden hose water in the garabage can and maybe look at see'ing how to attach the little one to a peice of flat rock and stick it in the tank....

is there a way to like seal the wood ? to stop it from rotting and falling aart over time in the tank >??
