Preserved Rhom!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok guys I'm sorry, back to F1 VET and the original topic of the thread. Didn't mean to veer OT and start an argument, I just believe I am entitled to my own opinion. some people may not agree with what you do.

That's pretty cool! How long you going to keep him like that?

That's awesome! I love weird and creepy things like that! Lol you should make a step by step thread on how you preserved it. I'm sure some people on here have some fish they would like to keep..... forever lol

I'm not interested in starting an argument, this is a friendly forum, but piranhas aren't really as aggressive and vicious as they're cracked up to be. I tried piranhas a long time ago, they're cowards.

It's ok, they may be cowards in aquariums, but if I don't feed my shoal a week or so your hand will go missing very quickly!

I have a good idea, lets completely derail the thread and start and argument! fish 042099 you're first...

I agree, although I guess maybe to some its a little gruesome ;)

Thats great!!! I never knew you could make that stuff

Very easy, just silicone, substrate , a DEAD fish and 90+ percent alcohol for preservation!

No harm done! He died 6-3-12, and I put him in the freezer and after 4+ months 10-19-12 I decided to put him in a jar and preserve him for decades to come!

2 days, was in the freezer for 4 months, died 6-3-12.

Thanks for the compliment! ;)

Whoa is that thing still alive? I'm not grasping the concept well at the moment :P Someone fill me in please.

I simply preserved a dead fish in a jar! He was dead for 4 months before I did this yesterday!

My new rhom I bought on 6-3-12 (same day my other died) is in a 90 GALLON TANK all by himself!

Still alive and very healthy

Let me clarify this may look cruel and morbid but a DEAD fish cannot feel pain, this is my way of remembering him and comparing growth to my CURRENT rhom! I miss him very much

Thanks very much Slippery! I knew you'd appreciate it!

Simple, a clean jar, 90%+ alcohol (isopropyl is 94%), and a way to attatch it, I used silicone and a thumb tack, just inserted it and glued it to the bottom of the jar, let dry, then added substrate then filled up with alcohol! Took 5 min!

I can still enjoy him and that's what this is about!

Yea man that's the worst, he was my boy, when he died I was very upset. First fish I had that's died in years!

Never even lost 1 of my 6 rbp juvy shoal to cannibalism even after a year! But young serrasalmus rhoms are finicky and difficult to raise from .5"-3", as long as they eat its a good sign!

If they do die Atleast you have choices to honor their beastly memories! Taxidermy is way to expensive for a 2.3" fish, so alcohol preservation was my only option, and I love how it turned out, the substrate makes it looks natural imo!

Thx again Bro!

BTW if were not friends add me!
