preserving my 12" tern

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this is very cool.. sad for the fish, but cool preservation technique..

looking forward to seeing how this goes.. i did it to one of my goldfish a while back and all the meat gets really shriveled up and the whole thing just shrinks,, makes the fish look anorexic.. lol

after u finish drying are u going to put some layers of polyurethane on it or just keep it natural..

i will coat him with something just to make him look a little darker. this technic should yeild a dehydrated looking fish .

p.s i went to check on it and it is starting to smell a bit. i am going to change out the baking soda sunday so i hope to have some pics to post:)

ive done this with a large rhom and its a long process but well worth it.

taking the guts out would speed things up alot,
i made a cutting on one side of his belly (the side that wouldnt be seen)
pulled everything out and filled the cavity with baking soda

if theres any thing i can help you with just ask

well nine day into the preservation and i have chenged out the baking soda. he is hardening nicely, and he is still little soft in the belly w/ some leakage at the anus, but not bad. his eyes have sunk in a bit so i will probably get some eyes at the hobby store. he smells a bit also. i only took 3 pics so here they are
