OMG YES
But, if you do that, I suggest only upper jaw bichirs as the bigger guys will accidentally uproot everything. The little guys do as well but even stem plants get enough roots to handle it and I haven't had many problems with that with my small guys (or at least not as many as with the endli I used to have)

The are one of my favorite fish. Also look into rope fish, care is the same.
