Yes its been real windy and it was a cold winter by Miami standards. Its nice now with no wind and mid to high 80s .
Not to mention rain fall has been very low.

I was just talking to guy from Broward yesterday who caught a few salivina cichlids on wax worms 2 days ago.

Have you ever caught any yourself there?

Yes! By Hook and by Net. Last memorial day I spent 2 days fishing. Pulled Mayans Tilapia bass bream and Salvini out left and right in a ditch canal behind my wifes work.

Numerous nettings have produced baby mayans and small salvini and mollies.

This past weekend, Went fishing caught Tilaps bream and Mayans. Small bass and catfish too.

Was at the spot I usually can net out fish and was just throwing out Gulp worms. Nothing was biting but in the past few days its been Cichlid Central. Saw my first Wild/Released Oscar in about 10 years. Mayans like crazy. Today went and threw the rod a few times. Beautiful Pair of Peakcocks but nothing. I put the worm right in front of them and they look at it but then swam away. The only thing i have ever line caught here was a catfish. If I could put a hook on a bobber/popper then I can catch gar left and right. It has teeth marks on the bobber from last night.

Lol its funny how no salvini by me at all but army of oscars.
I was by tamiami canals last weekend and lots talipia which are now starting to spawn and even drive the oscars into deeper waters.

I would love to have salvini by me. Only fish I intend to keep for a tank. interesting how some cichlids only found in certain areas. Think Salvini only found in Broward.

Red devils I have not caught either think only in redlands which I have yet to fish at.

Have you tried wax worms or earthworms? cichlids will hit those.
I never had a cichlid other than big jaguars hit lures.

Nothing beats a good canal for cichlids lol. Imagine the gar was in a lake, river?

you ever run into any knifes or aros?

Nightcrawlers worked well. Im using Gulp Worms.. BioSynthetic Worm. Hit the catfish on that one but not the cichlids.

The gar was in the same Ditch Canal as the Peacock Bass, Bass, Mayans, Salvini, Tiliapia, Bream, Catfish.

Its sad. I get dissapointed when I pull out a bream or a bass now. I want the exotics.

At my wifes work saturday evening. They have a acre or so pond stocked but with the ditch canal next to it and having Fishing days for the kids <private school> the mayans tilaps have made it into the pond. ANyways, there must have been 8 or 9 dead full grown tilapias. It was way weird and its been a few weeks since that cold snap.

The cold snap and high winds took a toll on the talipia I to have seen them dead however they are now mating so enough made it. They drive out the other fish at least from what I have seen.
Do you fish at night while waiting for your wife ?

I have never caught cichlids at night only during day light and temps over 80 .

I to prefer exotics but this year going for some non peacock bass near glades have heard monsters there.

My father in law who lives like an hour away has a big boat goes saltwater fishing but that doesnt interest me prefer mosquito infested canals lol

I havnt caught cichlids at night either. Went by another place and another few dead tilaps.

No I fish in the evening when my wife thinks im still at work. I spend about 30 minutes every other night. ALso alternate on lunch hours. Where i fish at lunch I dont catch much so it doesnt matter. I have a 19 month son who tires my wife easily so it gets frowned on to be fishing. Im dying for him to get older <while dying that he stays the same age>. because then on Saturdays and sundays I can grab him and go fishing. Plus the more i fish the less Call of Duty time I get.

Snakeheads are up in Coral springs. Salvini are all in the area between 84 and Griffin between Flamingo and 75. Tilap and Mayan all over here. Those are starting to bore me. I want to catch something different.

ON vacation next week so wont have a chance to go fishing until a week from monday at the earliest.

The old fish farm areas have some outstanding plecos not common plecos which are nice to but the more expensive pleco types.

I have never been there but have seen pics of them from same friend who caught the clown.

Caught them on earthworms . Used rod/reel for cichlids and just line tied to a tree that he let sink for plecos.

That area is a great exotic area but like everywhere else in Florida you have to know more or less which exact area or close .

I dont think cichlids bite at night because even in big cichlid areas where they bite like crazy from 10am to 1pm they dont bite at night .

I to lost interest in Mayans lol though have not caught adult and want to just countless young. Tilipia I hope to catch Mosambique which I saw by Tamiami canals bit past Indian casino .
They refused to bite anything but big and impressive strange lipped fish.

I am in Doral which is like 15 min from Broward hope to go soon . Redlands I need to hit also for red devils.
My ultimate best catch which at time I did not even know what it was .
Was a huge jag cichlid on lure . Since than have caught BIG jags by Tamiami canals and by miami airport canals .

Tamiami isnt far from Broward in mid summer the jumbo jags are there . Males with outstanding colors. Next Salvini you catch post pic as the wild types are real nice.
