Use those plastic meshes from florists and build a frame and tie the mesh to it. This way the arowana wont get injured when it jumps. You can then tie the whole cover down onto the tank bracings.
If you had sponges stuck on the top of the tank so that even if it did jump they would stop the impact so the lid would probably not fly open and it wouldnt harm the aro.
Im looking into thick arcylic lids and then covering the top with plywood and cutting a section out for the light. This is so my leichardti cant see the bugs that walk across it. (This is why mine jumped)

How about putting a sheet over the tank, or like a pillow case? Would that gett all wet and moldy? I don't know, I am just puttin that out there...
try putting aquatic floating plants.
Aros jump for a coupla reasons:
1. Something is attracting their attention at the top of the tank and they think its edible.
2. They are startled by some new action near their tank.
3. Stress due to water parameters or change in current.
4. They're feeling itchy
5. Tankmates are causing problems
6. Not enough rest eg. tank lights are on for too long

I always thought building a cage around the top would be cool. Then when teh get big enough, let a couple bird go in there. Its like that national geographic footage in your living room.
