up to 1" a month, particularly in the summer/warmer months ime. My guys barely grew all winter and have been packing on the size again since about march/april. expect 12-18" the first 1.5 yrs. my biggest is pushing 20" and my other 2 aren't far behind and they are approx 1.5-2 yrs old now. some are known to max around 24" and others get upwards of 36"+

Would $48 for an 8 inch fire eel be reasonable?

$12 at most?... maybe in CA, but not anywhere else in the US. I'd say $30 dollars max for the size mentioned (larger eels can get up into tripple digits).

Ya the only problem i have is that all that i have next to me is a small petco and a petsmart, i would have to drive 75 miles to get to a store where id see if i could order one, so its not too easy for me.
