I think you can make the cost of running a tank cheap or expensive depending on your preference of setup, type of fish, type of aquascape, and type of filters, etc. It all depends how you plan to set you tank up. Do you plan on having rare fish or fish with low tolerance to water parameter change. Do you plan on having live plants as this can increase your cost of electricity since live plants require higher wattage flourscent tube. Are you going with Salt or Freshwater setup? Salt will require more work and equipment to operate than fresh. What type of filters will you be using? A Eheim canister filter alone is $300 but it's worth it if you got the cash to spend it. As for electricity the equipments that consumed the most energy are your heaters. For a 120 you need a minimum of 400watts. This is like having a portable electric heater running 2-3 hrs a day. These are some things to think about and it will give you a better idea how much it will cost to run a 120 tank.
