PRIDE Fighting:Bushido 10!!!!!

foxy no offense but you've obviously never fought and have pretty limited knowledge of the fight game if you think just being in shape is the primary factor for intimidating opponents and playing headgames. Roberto Duran is the most intimidating lightweight ever, he would absolutely trashtalk opponents into the ground, and had the eyes of a shark, people were scared of him, yet between fights he didn't maintain his ideal physical appearence.

The same today with James Toney, he looks like a ****ing fat blob, yet he regularly plays headgames with his opponent and trashtalks them into the ground, and the mindgames work, and people do seem scared of him. His lardy appearence doesn't seem to detract from that at all.

A good MMA example of what I am talking about is Alex Emilianenko Vs James Thompson. Have you seen that fight?

Thompson looks like a supremely chiseled body builder type, and fedor's brother just looks like a slob. Emilianenko had absolutely no fear of thompson who came charging out like a bull, and got destroyed in about 20 seconds.

And fedor himself, he is a little on the tubby side, hardly chiselled is he? Yet most of his opponents seem pretty scared of him, and he's the champ.

Appearence means absolutely nothing in fighting.

im a 36 year old vetranary technician,i dont have much time to start training for ultimate fighting.i represent what i estimate to be 75-85% of the people who watch pride fighting without trying to become a pride fighter.as far as MMA goes i actually do practice martial arts (Tae Kwon Do and Aikido Boxing) and have for 14 years, but only compete against people in the town i live in.that doesnt stop me from whooping somones ass at a bar, party,or the local mall if thats where they get mouthy.
as far as looks,i keep saying it doesnt really matter, your just not listening.i said its obvious that they do their share of practicing but I prefer a fighter who cares more about their appearance.this is a "my oppinion" sort of a thing.i never once mentioned their lack of muscle definition inhibit their ability to fight.
so when you say "its obvious youve never fought ",well,i guess you can never really tell about somebody over the internet ,eh?

foxy - my whole point was that you insinuated a lack of training between fights inhibits the ability to initimidate and play mindgames with your opponent.

Fair enough if you like a fighter who looks in shape all the time, but seriously that was complete BS about it affecting their intimidation and mindgame potential.

I gave examples of some of the best trash talkers in boxing, who bloat up between fights.

The truth is foxy that almost NO pro fighters train between fights. That would be like you studying vetenary practices while on holiday etc, you get my point.

If a fighter trained all year round he would be overtrained and burn out, that's why most of them rest between fights and train hardcore for between say 6 and 10 weeks before a fight.

SO what it boils down to, is some people naturally stay in shape better than others. I am naturally lean, I can eat as I please and I find it very difficult to put on weight, so I always look in shape. Other people can look in better shape than me, but easily put on weight when not training and bloat up.

All I am saying foxy is if a fighter looking in shape is that important to you, fair enough, but you're wrong about it meaning anything as far as initimidation and mindgames. And you're also wrong for blaming the individual fighters.

Like I said, some guys naturally bloat easier and can't help putting on weight when not training and resting. Fedor is a good example of someone who NEVER looks in shape, but he trains hardcore and has excellent stamina.

And like I said, I guess you've never fought - taikwondo and aikido don't count, it's not full contact fighting, it's not something you'd train in to become a serious prize fighter.

Take a look at genki sudo Vs the korean taikwondo champ for a good example of a pro MMA prize fighter, vs a master at a non prizefighting martial art.

I did taekwondo for a few years starting age 10, left at red belt, then took up thai boxing for a bit, then in my late teens proper boxing.

to put it simply - thai boxing and boxing are real fighting, and even if you have a martial arts background, you get quite a shock sparring full contact in thai boxing or boxing for the first time.

I'm not saying you have to want to be a pride fighter to know what you're talking about, I'm saying you seem to have a very naive attitude towards prizefighting, thinking that staying cut or in shape all year round is going to help intimidate or play mindgames with your opponent :D It's not true.

gomi looked like a ragdoll, that was great. now the rematch for his belt.. and the open weight class is going to be great.
BTW.... i've read the word "cracker" on here many times, there was NO outrage... but foxy says gomi looks funny and now there's an F5 hurricane swirling around???????? :screwy:
i think foxy was trying to say " most asian fighters aren't buffed up on xience", but that is what makes MMA so fun----biggest doesn't equal best. look at Tim silvia.. he's a slop that, imo, shouldn't ever win, but he seems to pull out Ws.
can't we all just fight, i mean get along :naughty: :naughty:

the word cracker, so what, who cares, it's just a silly name. I think saying he doesn't like the look of asian fighters and that gomi looks like a mongaloid is a little different :)

holy **** sucker, I didn't even know that, haven't kept up to date with MMA in the past couple of weeks.

HOw was the fight? how conclusively was he beaten? Is it worth watching?

Damn, maybe Fedor is next.

Fedor is KING! lol.. Has fedor been defeated yet? i havent followed MMA in years now.. Love that love fight between mark hunt and that japanese boxer... great fight!

gomi lost in 2:29 minutes of the first round i think it was. damn i already forgot the other guys name. it wasn't even a contest in my opinion. he got submitted by the choke hold with his arm in there too. i'm bad with the names of moves, but you should of seen the crowd, they went silent! yes, he does throw some hard punches, but he got schooled. i was a little disappionted that was the main fight and it was over pretty quick. great fights before that but....
sorry, i hope i didn't ruin it for anybody that hasn't seen it.
yes, it's worth seeing the dan henderson fight alone!!!!! i won't say anything bout it but that WAS a FIGHT!!
"tacos burritos????
comido solo pesca taco pelon

Hopefully Gomi will comeback from this a better more dominant fighter...... like GSP........

As for the Mongloid comment........ Hmmm....... I used to get all bent over "ignorant" statements like that but ive learned that its really pointless to argue over the internet....... BUT since its already started
Physical appearance and fittness is really secondary to "Heart" and "Composure" Rumble brought up a good example with A. Emelienko. We live in a physical society by which we size each other up in a matter of seconds.... Much like animals...... some of us bluff our toughness...... Tattoos, Piercings, Muscles..... and even facial hair........ But for those of us "in the know" you learn to oversee those "external" signs....... I guess most of us have been brain washed by WWF.... and well "Marketed" fighters......... I tend to make alot of comparisons between Humans and Animals....... We can relate to them on many levels..... alot of things may be too taboo :screwy: for "mainstream" society to accept. But just remember this........ We are a part of a food chain....... where do you stand?..... then think back to early grade school days.......... you are in the same position amonst your peers........ we are either born "sheep, wolves, or shepards"....... now what were we talking about? :screwy:
