So it is about time for me to get a dechlorination/tap water treatment product for my water changes. I currently use Aqua Safe. I have heard a lot of good things about Prime being a superior product though. My question is does Prime cause false readings for ammonia and nitrite testing. It says it detoxifies ammonia and nitrite levels. I use an API master test kit and want to make sure this will work or should I just stick with the aqua safe that strictly neutralizes chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals.

Thanks

i just switched like 2 days ago. I have noticed a great difference in the color of my fish. I had a ammonia problem. I have read on here as well that it will mess with test readings.

my sudjestion is if your tank is properly cycled you dont need to check your ammonia... i havent checked in years and have cycled tanks with out checking params...

:iagree: if you have even the slightest reading of ammonia on an established tank, then you are really under-filtered. i never test my water on any of my tanks. test kit is just collecting dust

Now, people talk about Ammonia spikes though after a tank has cycled. If Prime does in fact alter readings then how would you catch these spikes if you are not periodically testing your water. I know my tank is not under filtered. I have a 50 gallon sump for my 100 gallon tank. It is being turned over 8 to 9 times an hour. I have plenty of bio in my sump as well. My tank is currently cycling. Past the ammonia spike and now waiting for the Nitrites to drop. For those of you who like to check your water params like me does the prime alter the readings of an API test kit?

I use an API ammonia test kit and no, Prime did not alter the readings. Prime dissipates after approximately 24 hours so if it does look off, just wait 24 hours since you last added prime and test again.

I also use prime on all of my tanks. I recommend it.

Prime is the best. Its also cheap at doctor foster and smiths..

If you are using Aquasafe, you are wasting your money. Prime is 5 times more potent. You'll use 5 times less. Optimus Prime thinks that Aquasafe sucks.
