our tap water has chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals in it. Prime removes/detoxifies them.

I use AquaPlus which I believe is a Hagen product. I won't switch to Prime because everyone says it makes their fishroom smell like a giant fart just after using it...

Prime for the fish. Aqua safe for the frogs.

As a Vivarium keeper myself (frogs to be added soon)... I'd love to know why you prefer AquaSafe for frogs?

Both great stuff, but I would never use Prime on a new/cycling tank.

Prime "binds" ammonia by turning it into ammonium... Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria will consume/convert ammonium in the exact say way as it will ammonia...

Prime "binds" nitrite by turning it into ammonium nitrite... Nitrite Oxidizing Bacteria will consume/convert the nitrite from the ammonium nitrite just like it will regular nitrite...

In other words... Prime does not do anything that will interfere with the cycling process... It just alters the compounds temporarily into a form that is less harmful to our fish...

When I first started keeping FBT's and American Toads (14-ish years of age) I went to a frog forum with many questions about the water to use for FBT's and other questions. Everyone recommended AquaSafe over the normal "frog" dechlorinator usually found in the reptile section of say a Petsmart or other place. I "guess" it wouldn't affect the frogs and it was cheaper than buying the frog dechlorinator which might treat 50 gallons compared to a couple thousand for the fish dechlorinator. I'm 21 now and only keep two ACF's (African Clawed Frogs) and still use the AquaSafe. One is 6 years old and the other is over a year and all is doing well. Even had the older one breed within the past year.

I have both, but I caught Tetra on sale... $4 for the large bottle! So I've been using it for a while now. I've never found Prime that cheap. Both great stuff, but I would never use Prime on a new/cycling tank.

Why would you never use this on a new or cycling tank, if it's so great? Does it take longer to cycle, I don't understand your statement. Please elaborate on this.

I've used Prime and Stability on a new tank. It worked out very well.
