Yeah get one of those hoses that hooks up to your sink. They're affordable and simple to use. I am a breeder and I don't add prime when I do small 20-30 percent water changes. Unless you have animals that are super-sensitive to chlorine, don't concern yourself with the prime. Certainly add it if you want, but don't worry too much about it if you're just doing small changes, and don't worry about when you add it.

Sorry, but I don't think this is good advice to post to a new member asking questions. Prime is inexpensive to begin with. And it is so concentrated that a tiny bit goes a long way. I add Prime even with a 20% water change in a 20 gallon tank. It probably costs me $0.05 to do this. Why even risk harming your fish to save a nickel?

BTW, all fish are sensitive to chlorine.

Thanks everyone. Even though I not that new. (I have been in the hobby for a couple of years) I have just been weary about killing my bacteria. Sometimes I can smell the chlorine in the city water. I have been toting buckets for too long. I have a 90 gallon, 2 55 gallons and 2 10 gallons. Thanks everyone.

I add prime into the tank before i start adding the buckets of new water... i really should get one of those python thingys! :@

My city water if I did a python change, the tap water would kill all or part of my BIO.

I keep a rubbermaid garbage can full of aged tap water treated with prime.
Drain the the tank outside or to a floor drain. Then use a small pump to fill the tank back up...quick and easy ......no more buckets and I dont have to worry about the day to day variances in chloramine /chlorine levels from my cities tap water :WHOA:

I left the hobby a few years ago because of nerve damage in my back. the python is the one piece of equiptment that brought me back. I do a 50-60% wc every 4 or 5 days on my 120 gal. discus tank. I dose enough prime for the whole tank and just add to the tank as it's filling. if wild discus can handle this then any fish can.

right now i add prime to my water, but i was considering aging my water and see how that goes. i add prime mainly to my discus tank, (even though i've only had them for a little less than a week) my fish in the other tanks seem to be doing fine though.

a little prime goes a long way, especially if you dont want to risk your fish.

Unless there's something else up with your tap water, when using Prime, there is no reason to age it. I was a bit reluctant to try it myself in the beginning, but like I stated earlier, I have had zero health issues when filling directly from the tap once I started using Prime. I would have stopped buying new tanks a long time ago if I had to age water or use buckets :)

Often, no matter what, when your mind is made up that`s all there is.
Would guess a large number of people in your area dose with a dechlorinator as the tap water goes into the tank.
What you are doing is fine, but not "written in stone” necessary.
Bacteria are pretty tuff little mutts.
Allot harder to kill of than many think.
Your tap water would have to be undrinkable for Prime, or such, to not make it tank safe.
No harm, no foul.
Whatever way you are comfortable doing your WC, I think we can all agree on the importance of doing it.
