Prime

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I asked a question for a reason, not for everyone to ask why ........would of been more simple but I will explain.....
my tanks are automated so when the water levels in these large tanks get low then the PLC(computer)
adds more water to the tank automaticly, I have a chemilizer(which is a dosing pump) and it it connected to a 5 gallon pail which holds the diluted prime, it adds so much diluted prime to a ratio of how much water is added to the tank......so again.....will prime still work after sitting in a pail with some water after a week or so...? thanks

Well, that makes a lot more sense now. Sorry if we frustrated you. Anyway, I would think your best bet is to ask Seachem directly because I don't know the chemicals in Prime (and even if I did I am not an expert at chemistry). I will comment that usually chemicals will break down over time in water because H2O is a polar covalent molecule, which is why it is commonly given the title of "universal solvent." So, based on that I would guess that it would stop working after some undetermined period of time - so I guess that leads to my first suggestion which is to contact Seachem directly (or I guess you could experiment yourself).

If u can wait online. This way u can buy in bulk and save goto lps and buy smaller bottle.

With my pygos ive been using stress coat as a med and dechlor cuz they nip eachother and i love it. I still throw a dab of prime in just in case

64oz of stress coat =20-30$ ONLINE

I was wondering how long Prime will last or if it even works when you put a bottle of it in a 5 gallon pail with tap water and mix it up...then I want to use that diluted prime mix during a water change...say 2 weeks later......would this work or would the prime be rendered useless?

Hey Ivan, to answer your question, yes, that will work just fine. A less costly alternative would be to use the dry powder version of Prime, Seachem Safe. At 2mg/l of chloramine (which is what your Edmonton tap water contains) a 4kg container of Safe will treat 400,000 gallons of tap water. Safe doesn't contain any stabilizing agents, but according to Dr. Greg Morin, the head chemist & CEO of Seachem, it too will remian active for approx 30 days when premixed and utilized in a drip system such as what you have. Pets & Ponds carries Seachem Safe in the 4kg bulk containers.

Hope that helps.
