I have tried everything I can think of to get this filter to prime correctly. One of the intakes has air in it. I took it apart to clean it and cannot get it to prime right. I have taken it apart numerous times and emptied it out to fill it with water hoping to get the air out of the lines. All with no success. I did manage to get the air bubble into the other intake line. If you have any ideas I would appreciate the help.

Howdy,

Close the shut-off valve and fill the intake that has air in it manually (this one):

Unscrew the cap on the top, fill the hose with a funnel, screw cap back on. Do that on both intakes if you have too much trouble. Then open the shut-off valve and push the primer button repeatedly. It helps if your spray bar is above water to let the air escape.

Good luck,

I have tried that but only on one of the intakes. I just tried both of them. And still can not get the air out. I fill the intake tube with water and it will not stay full of water. The level goes down once I stop filling it with water.

That is what I did. I will try it again tomorrow when I do a water change that way I know the output will be above the waterline. When I do fill the intake with water it comes out of the strainer end of it and then the air pocket reforms in the hose. Thanks for the help.

Right. The hose will fill, and excess water will "overflow" into the intake and drain thru the strainer. The air pocket you saw is small enough to be pulled into the filter.

Good luck, keep us posted.

I have a similar problem with my 2x 2028. It primes and runs fine but it creates so many bubbles in the tank that the tank looks cloudy.

When I was running with the stock spraybar output it made so much noise and bubbles I figured it was due to air in one of the lines or the canister itself. I tried what was suggested above several times on both the intake and output and it made no difference. I ended up taking off the spraybar sections from the output and running it wide open. The noise went away but it still bubbles up the tank a lot - not as much as with the spraybar but still a lot.

Is this happening because there is still air in the system or is this just normal? Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you are sucking air from somewhere. Maybe a loose connection on the hoses somewhere. How old are the filters? Do they both do it?

They are brand new, 2 days old. I checked all the fittings and tightened everything up and watched all the hoses with a flashlight and I can't see any air entering the hoses or fittings.

Both create a lot of bubbles but one does seem to be a bit worse.
